Extreme Herder

This is a quick guide to the game Extreme Herder. You play Samrin the Kacheek trying to get all those pesky petpets in their pen before the Big Bag Balthazar can snack on them for lunch.

Game Tips
1. It's important that you familiarise yourself with what's what in the game. You are Samrin the blue Kacheek, your enemy is Balthazar; a lupe. All the other little critters are the petpets who you are trying to catch. Each round you will see a petpet with a star over it's head. This is the bonus catch petpet, and can give you a bonus of up to 5 points when you get it safely into the pen. Two special items that also appear are the orange speed orb and the snowflake. The speed orb doubles your speed, and the snowflake freezes Balthazar for a few seconds.

2. Don't worry about walking next to Balthazar. He won't *try* and eat you; he really wants the petpets. He'll only eat you if you touch him, or he accidentally knocks into you when he's trying to get a petpet.

3. Don't go out of the way to get the snowflakes. Only get them if one happens to be in your path. You could be wasting valuable time chasing after the snowflakes instead of the petpets!

4. The same applies for the orange speed orbs, although I'd go a *little* out of the way to get them. Some people have trouble controlling Samrin once he's under the power of the speed orb, but a little practice should sort this problem out.

5. If you do get a snowflake take advantage of the few seconds when Balthazar is frozen! If there are any petpets in his way try and get them. It's also important to note, that whilst Balthazar is frozen (and yellow) you can walk over the top of him without any fears of being eaten.

6. In the first few levels of the game you have 'warp ports' which you can use to get to other parts of the screen quickly. Use them while you have them because they disappear in later rounds.

7. Petpets above the pen are in more danger than those below it. This is for two reasons; the space above the pen is narrower than the space below which means that it's harder to get past Balthazar and to rescue those petpets! You also start at the bottom of the screen so it's easier for you to get to those petpets more quickly. Because of this, you should try and save the pets above the pen quickly, if you are close enough to them.

8. If Balthazar is about to eat a petpet that you *know* you have no chance of saving, then run into him and make him eat you instead. Sounds crazy? Well, it's better if you get eaten rather than the petpets scoring wise. If a petpet get gobbled up, Balthazar will continue on his petpet massacre and you'll lose your 'Saved All Petpets' bonus. If Samrin sacrifices himself, the game is reset. Meaning that the lupe will go up again into his corner and the remaining petpets get re-scattered over the field, and they can be in more desirable positions.

9. Balthazar always goes for the petpet that is nearest to him. If you are clever you can use this to your advantage ie. rescuing a petpet above the pen whilst Balthazar is stalking one below, then running round and snatching the other petpet just as Balthazar's about to go in for the kill.

10. If you only have one life left, try and save the petpet with the star on its head first, for those extra points

11. Keep as close to the edges of the pen as you can (unless you need to go out and get straying petpets of course!). This can speed up your rate of petpet recovery!

12. If you're getting tired and need a rest, just pick up the last petpet and don't put it in the pen. Without any petpets about Balthazar loses interest and skulks back into the top left hand corner. He won't come after you, so wait as long as you like before popping the petpet into the pen.
